Two elderly American women, who hatched a plot to collect life insurance pay outs, are being charged with murder this month. The pair claimed to be engaged or related to homeless men in order to collect life insurance funds after killing them.

Helen Golay (77) and Olga Rutterschmidt (75) ran down two homeless men in a car, with the intention of receiving large life insurance pay outs. Helen Golay told the authorities that she was each of the men’s fiancé in order to make a claim and Olga Rutterschmidt claimed to be the men’s cousin. Both women will face a life sentence with no condition of parole for good behaviour. According to the ABC website: “Deputy District Attorney Truc Do laid out for the jury evidence of a murder plan that was hatched years before it was carried out. There were 21 life insurance policies taken out on strangers.” Truc Do said.

Two homeless men had insurance policies which the women had bought them and each was worth a lot of money. $829,500 was what could be paid out upon the death of Paul Vados and $5,790,000 would be paid out if Kenneth McDavid died. The women had hoped to reap the rewards of their investments by killing the men and securing the life insurance funds.

One of the victim’s sisters spoke out about the lack of human empathy exhibited by the women in the case; she said she was a nurse who saved lives for a living and that it was hard to imagine what these women were thinking.

In an article published online by the Los Angeles Times it was said by Michael Sklar, Rutterschmidt’s defendant that: “Olga Rutterschmidt lacked savvy, was ‘simple-minded’ and even ‘stupid’.” Sklar added. “I can’t tell you how a person can be that stupid. I can only tell you that she was,” he also alleged that Golay planned the murders but didn’t tell Rutterschmidt about the scheme, which spanned over eight years and involved the purchase of policies for several men.

“That [car] was used by Helen Golay to kill Mr. McDavid, no question,” he said, referring to the 1999 Mercury Sable station wagon on which authorities found McDavid’s DNA. Golay’s auto club membership was used to call for a tow on that vehicle the night of the alleged murder.

The black widows insurance scam wasn’t the only insurance story in the American press this month though. A woman was found guilty of forging her niece’s signature in order to prove that she was the child’s guardian. Her intention was then to receive $10,000 dollars in life insurance pay outs from Monumental Life Insurance Company.

The woman, Robin R. Francisco (48) took the money which rightfully belonged to the child of her brother and the child’s mother and would not have been found out if it were not for investigations by the Fraud Investigations Division. Francisco pleaded guilty on trial and will now spend five years in prison, with a potential probated five years following that and she must repay $10,000 dollars back to Monumental Insurance. Her final sentence will be passed on May the 5th.

As I’ve noted in prior posts, one of the enduring hypocrisies facing the WTC rescue workers awaiting payment for inhaling toxic fumes amidst the rubble after 9/11 is that the WTC Insurance Fund, led by Christine LaSala, is using its mandate to fight the claims of those who need the money the most. It has been noted that tens of millions of the $1 billion that Congress handed over to the WTC Insurance Fund, to be distributed to WTC rescue workers, have instead been used to pay to outside law firms to fight the claims of those sick and dying from exposure to these toxins.

One of the most ruthless attorneys employed by the WTC Insurance Fund is James Tyrrell of the law firm Patton Boggs best known for defending the company that manufactured Agent Orange. Knowing what we now know about Christine LaSala and the WTC Insurance Fund and their corporate ethics, I’m certain he fit right in. And during the time he’s been working with the WTC Insurance Fund, he and other attorneys have managed to take $47 million of the $1 billion that Congress earmarked for paying WTC rescue workers. That means nearly 5% of the entire WTC Insurance Fund, designed to help those American heroes dying from emphysema and lung cancer after helping us recover from the most significant attack on US soil, have been spent on high priced attorneys fighting against the same plaintiffs the WTC Insurance Fund was supposed to defend. And during that time… only $45,000 has been paid out to one carpenter who fell off a ladder. If that wasn’t enough to boil the blood, lawyer Thomas Jones who serves as the WTC Insurance Fund’s secretary is also a partner at McDermott & Will law firm, which serves as the WTC Insurance Fund’s legal counsel. That is an obvious conflict of interest since McDermott & Will advises the WTC Insurance Fund on what they can and cannot legally do with the $1 Billion they have while at the same time one of their partners is working for the company they are representing. McDermott & Will can defend their man while he works within the WTC Insurance Fund denying claims for injured fire, police, and civilians.

A scandal involving so much money related to a topic so near and dear to hearts of all Americans, but especially New Yorkers, would normally be front-page news, but in this case it’s barely been touched by mainstream media. Between Tyrrell, Jones, and the other lackeys hired by Christine LaSala and the WTC Insurance Fund, $75 million has been spent fighting the claims of the WTC rescue workers. Putting yourself in the shoes of these heroes you realize what horrible odds they face as they are outspent (ironically with their own tax dollars used against them) and are in poor health. Worse yet, as we’ve seen the WTC Insurance Fund has stated that they may be looking at 2015 until money begins being paid. Christine LaSala (making $350,000 annually) and her cronies are quite rich and can afford to wait for this fight to take place. Can a fireman living off a small disability check with rising health costs afford to do the same?

Having more than one health insurance is not a bad idea provided that you have the capacity to pay for them all. There will be no problem if a person can pay for his/her policies on time; and if he/she will not tamper any documents needed in processing his/her health insurance policies. A person has the freedom to choose the company, policy, and number of policies he/she can buy. There might be special offers for those who have more money but everyone is still welcome to enter the doors of the health insurance companies. Health insurance companies exist not just for revenue but for genuine customer care service as well.

According to a study, about 1 million Americans do not have insurance. A lot of people die too because of this lack of insurance. Now, Millman, Inc., a pioneer consulting firm revealed in their studies that an average American family with four members will usually spend a total of $15,600 per annum for medical expenses alone. If this is the real amount needed for a family of four to be healthy, then a big chunk of their money will be allocated the wrong way if they don’t have insurance. This amount covers not only the fee of the doctor but also that of the drugs needed for further treatment.

The 2008 Presidential election in the United States brings better entertainment than the newly released movies in the movie houses near your home. They have been pounding on each other, trying to outdo one another.

But the latest among the battle of the parties is concerned about the issue of health insurance. The democrats still prefer using the federal government to provide the people options of whether they prefer a private or public health insurance. Also, people who belong to the lower income bracket can avail of subsidized plans. McCain on the other hand would like to have a universal coverage for all.

The main purpose of nursing homes is to care for people who cannot take care of themselves. It may be short-term condition, while recovering from an illness or injury, or long-term one, due to either physical or mental incapacitation that makes it impossible for you to look after yourself. They offer 24 hour health care which may be:

Skilled nursing care – care given for medical conditions in which the patient is recuperating from, needing qualified personnel to do the job;

Intermediate care – providing therapy or training for the rehabilitation of the patient

Custodial care – assisting the patient in his personal requirements: bathing, eating, dressing, usually performed by caregivers.

A good health insurance policy includes a number of coverage: hospital expense insurance will pay the costs of your room and minor services if you’re hospitalized; surgical expense insurance is for professional fees of surgeons and surgical procedures; physicians’ expense insurance covers the professional fees of your attending doctors when hospitalized or when you consult them at their clinic. Large insurance companies provide a wide range of coverage with maximum benefits designed to cover for grave illness or major injuries. Additional benefits to be considered when deciding to buy a health plan are: prescription drugs, mental health benefits, maternity, eye and dental care.

regarding insurance issues! A new monitoring body has been made to ensure the employees that they will get the benefits they deserve. Since insurance companies are considered as a “for profit” organization or institution (business is more like it), then they would do their best to hoard as many individuals who would like to get insurance, but, limit them when the time comes that policy holders need them. Now, US Dept. of Labor’s EBSA started to monitor the insurance companies so as minimize, if not eliminate, these greedy insurance corporations from violating some of the rights of their policy holders (right to insurance, getting what he or she paid for).

The presidential race in the United States is a close fight amongst the 3 contenders from 2 parties. The two parties involved have stable platforms that never had a total revamp in years (same principles guiding each). It is not a surprise though that when the survey of Washington Post and ABC News regarding who the Americans trust more, Obama or McCain, regarding the health care system, a democrat emerged.

Almost 55% of the total said that they think Obama can handle the health care system of the United States better. But apart from the outcome, from the 1,122 adults that were surveyed (nationwide), only about 10% think that health care is a vital issue.

Cigarettes are addictive. And no matter what warning the government disperses to the public, they just can’t stop. That’s the effect of nicotine.

Now, the governor of Maine, John Baldacci, has found a way to make something out of this addictive vice. He planned to raise the taxes on cigarettes to fund the state’s health care program. Very clever indeed. The residents of Maine are in full support of the said program as this will not only benefit those under the state’s health care but, it will also discourage people from smoking (and prevent further lung cancer probabilities for first and second hand smokers).

Have you heard of balanced billing? That is actually what most doctors do to their patients. If you have insurance and you got into an accident, chances are, your insurance company will pay for your hospital bills provided that your injury is covered by your policy. But what if, you got into an accident and the insurance paid for it (it means it’s covered), but you are asked to pay for a little more amount because the doctor’s “regular fee” was imposed upon your treatment? California scrapped this style of billing and prohibited doctors from doing such. The ban covers all hospital related treatments (even emergency cases).

If you want genuine consumer opinion, do a survey with the right number of population… and this was what AFL-CIO did. They gave out a survey amongst the people (it was done online), and they found out that 95% of the respondents think that the American health insurance system should undergo a total revamp. It looks like they are not satisfied with the services offered by the insurance companies.

Oh no, if you think the data is not credible, think twice. All of the respondents have insurance policies, most of them had jobs as some are still schooling (they all belong to the upper half of the strata).
Good news to those who have been discriminated against by their employers.

Today millions of Americans are unable to afford the rising cost of healthcare. Additionally, millions more cannot qualify for healthcare benefits due to pre existing conditions that make them uninsurable. These issues of affordability and eligibility are major roadblocks facing Americans as they attempt to secure quality healthcare.

One choice that is available to these individuals is Guaranteed Acceptance Health Insurance. Follow along as we discuss some important aspects of this type of health care coverage and see if it is right for you.

What is Guaranteed Acceptance Health Insurance?

It is health insurance that is guaranteed issue, meaning no one is turned down for healthcare coverage. It simply refers to health insurance that has no medical underwriting. A policy will be issued even if you have pre existing conditions. There are no medical questions, no height/weight requirements and no physical exams needed to qualify. You choose your medical provider and the plan pays regardless of any other insurance coverage.

Who needs this type of health insurance?

It is ideal for those individuals who find they cannot qualify for or afford other health care plans. Those diagnosed with a preexisting condition such as heart disease, heart attack, diabetes, cancer, stroke, liver disease, AIDS, pregnancy, depression and kidney disease will most certainly find this a good choice. However, if you are healthy, it’s probably best to buy a traditional health insurance policy.

What does this insurance cover?

Known as a “mini-med” plan, these plans provide a considerable amount of healthcare coverage. They are affordable and cover most pre existing conditions after 12 months. These plans are not basic health insurance or major medical coverage but offer what is known as “limited benefit health insurance”. Simply put, the plan pays a defined amount for a medical service or procedure. Usually covered are doctor visits, emergency room visits, hospital charges, surgery, accidental death, etc.

How much does it cost?

These plans offer a wide range of premiums depending upon the type of plan selected and if the coverage will be for an individual, an individual plus spouse, individual plus child(ren) or for the entire family.

Are there other healthcare plans that will work for me?

Sure there are other options you might pursue. Group health insurance is a possibility but will require an employer sponsored plan or you could join a professional organization which offers a healthcare plan to its membership. This may not always be possible.

You may be able to obtain individual health insurance with some pre existing conditions but most likely the insurance company will want to totally exclude most preexisting conditions. State high risk pools offer an alternative solution but certain requirements must be met and the premiums can be very expensive. For individuals with pre-existing conditions, a guaranteed acceptance health policy may still be your best option.

Is Guaranteed Acceptance Health Insurance right for you?

Remember these types of plans are generally for someone who cannot obtain traditional health insurance due to medical reasons or wants coverage for the pre-existing conditions.

A recent national study by Harris Interactive®,a global leader in custom market research, has revealed that almost one in four gay and lesbian adults do not have health insurance and are almost two times as likely as their heterosexual equivalents to have zero health insurance coverage.

Figures from the survey showed that 22% of the gay and lesbian individals asked stated they had no health insurance, a shock in comparison to the 12% of heterosexuals who were also questioned.

This nationwide poll involved 2,710 American adults aged 18 plus, out of which 343 stated themselves as gay or lesbian (including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender adults) and took place between the dates of April 7th and April 15th, 2008, via a website, alongside the company Witeck-Combs Communications, Inc, who are the nations top rated marketing communications and consulting firm, who specialize in reaching the gay and lesbian consumer market.

“We know the problem of the uninsured has reached crisis proportions in this country and, unfortunately, this survey shows that the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community is today at greater risk. What GLBT households and all Americans deserve and need is affordable access to quality health care that results in positive outcomes and facilitates prevention, wellness and chronic care coordination,” said Peter Francel CEBS, Head of Sales-Product Group for Aetna. “We must step up all efforts to serve the uninsured and take the lead in transforming our health care system for not only our GLBT members but all those who are not covered by health insurance today,” he added

He also mentioned that Aetna’s GLBT policy of having a friendly working environment have led to the company obtaining a 100% rating on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index since 2002.

The people question were asked what variables would effect their decision as to which particular health insurers they would choose to go with. Nearly exactly the same amount of gay and lesbian adults stated that it was likely to have a profound effect if the health insurance company gave domestic partner health coverage for companies to whom they supply health insurance (85%) and to their own employees (84%).

79% of gay and lesbian adults indicated that if they saw a printed advertisement for a health insurance company which was specifically aimed at people of the gay community, with images of gay or lesbian people and relevant information about insurance products , this would definitely effect the chance of them considering going with that company.

If things such as price, accessibility and standard were not needed to be taken into account, almost 8 out of 10, 78%, gay and lesbian consumers would be most likely to choose an insurance provider or plan aimed at the GLBT community, with 67% stating that they would be most likely to consider a health insurer with agents they knew to be openly gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

“Studies consistently show that gay and lesbian consumers are far more likely to focus their spending on companies that sensitively and specifically reach out to them,” said Colleen Dermody, Vice President of Witeck-Combs Communications. “GLBT consumers place a high value on brands, including health insurance companies, that earn and grow respect within the community. GLBT consumers are among the most motivated to ‘vote’ with their dollars and to seek out brands they believe to be very friendly and supportive of the GLBT community.”

Are people over 50 too old for life insurance? After all, most consumers assume that large term life insurance policies work best when they cover younger people who still have a mortgage to cover and kids to support. We are all sold term life insurance at some point with the thought that after the contract expires, our kids will be off, and our homes will be all paid off. At that point, in a perfect world, we would have savings so that any future needs and obligations could be self insured.

However, times have changed. For one thing, Americans are living longer, and life insurance rates reflect that increae. Insurance rates are one thing that may cost less than they did 10 years ago! Americans are also working longer, and many of us do not expect to retire at 65. Our kids do not always follow our financial schedule, and sometimes they still need help past the age we had planned on them being independent. And setbacks, like layoffs and home equity loans, may have kept home mortgages from getting paid off on that 15 or 30 year schedule we had planned on. Furthermore, many people reach retirement, and they realize the money that they worked so hard to save will not go as far as they had planned.

So just because a term life insurance policy expired, our need for life insurance may not have expired at all. Baby boomers, and even senior citizens are still looking for life insurance policies. In fact, even though coverage is usually cheaper for younger people, it is when we reach middle age that we really start to realize the need for good coverage.

However, top rated insurers keep track of all of these trends too, and they do offer affordable plans for people over 50, and I have even seen policies that accept people up to age 85. Elderly people may need to apply for whole life insurance, but there are term policies that accept applicants at 70 years of age.

A 70 year old cannot expect to find a 30 year term policy, but a reasonably healthy retiree can find affordable 10 year policies. If 10 years is not enough, or a person suffers from some serious health conditions, a whole life insurance policy should be considered.

Sometimes older people purchase their own policies because they want to plan for final expenses and estate transfers. However, many times the children of senior citizens purchase a policy on their parents. They do it as an affordable way to plan for funeral expenses. The purchase relieves the parents and children from having to worry about allocating thousands of dollars for a funeral and settling final debts.

Whole life policies do not expire, but provide coverage as long as the policy is kept in force. In general, the policy will be in force as long as it is paid for or paid up. In addition, simplified and guaranteed issue whole life insurance policies, that accept senior citizens, are very common. Sometimes these policies are called final expense or burial policies.

Finding affordable health insurance in the United States has become mission impossible for the millions of Americans who are struggling to make ends meet. In a poll done in 2005 it was found that Americans biggest fear wasn’t terrorists, or car payments, but finding affordable health insurance. What these people don’t know is that health insurance doesn’t have to be expensive. If you shop around for the best prices that fit your needs you may sitting pretty every month when you pay your monthly premiums. Many people want to know what the “perfect plan” is, well the thing is that there is no ultimate plan that will be able to save you from all your healthcare woes, what you need to do is sit down and write a list of all of your unique needs that you need to have met in order for you and your family to live safely and comfortably. Some of the questions that you may want to ask yourself are whether or not you want protection from serious illnesses and diseases, if you want coverage for just yourself or do you need coverage for your entire family, or even if you want coverage for pre-existing medical problems that you or a loved one may have.

After making a list of all of your unique needs you will want to start to look around to find the most affordable health insurance policy for what you and your family’s needs. Look around to all different types of health insurance companies, talk to experts and get their advice. One great thing about shopping around for health insurance is you get free advice from professionals. Talk to the providers and ask them questions that are important to you, they know how health insurance works, and they will have reliable answers when it comes to you questions. Remember-don’t just start a policy with the first person you talk to, shop around and ask for advice from others, although they do have to give you honest answers they can try to sway to towards their company. The more companies you talk to and compare the more likely you are to find a company that will fit both your unique needs as well as your budget.

Health insurance is vital in protecting you and your family financially. Without health insurance you run the risk of essentially having your entire life’s savings being wiped out by something as small as a trip to the hospital. People who do not have health insurance often have to go weeks or even months before being treated for serious sicknesses’ or injuries. In some cases injured or sick people may have to pass up the opportunity to see a doctor at all because the costs may be too expensive. Don’t let this happen to you or anyone in your family!

Texas has been known to be hit with devastating storms coming up from the Gulf Coast. The most frequent types of storms to hit Texas are tropical cyclones as well as hurricanes, and a lot of the time if the actual storm does not reach Texas often the remains of the storms do. Along with bad weather these storms are normally associated with destruction and devastation, and most likely injury. Most people would assume that because the likelihood of these storms hitting Texas that made people would be prepared, and many are in every aspect except health insurance. Texas has the highest rate of uninsured Americans in the country mostly due to the high amount of poverty and the amount of immigrants living in Texas. For the thousands of people living in the Lone Star State who is insured under some type of Texas Health Insurance Plan should consider themselves lucky. Many of these people are barely getting by with the new monthly premiums that they have to pay. Recently, a mother of three young boys was interviewed about her new insurance policy, during the interview she told reporters that she often goes days without eating in order to give her children the healthcare that they need in order to be financially stable if someone in here family were to get injured or ill. She also said that she often has to go to yard sales and pawn shops in order to get what her family needs because of the cost of health care. This type of story is extremely sad but is becoming more common for residents living in the United States. What many Americans do not know is that for families who have a total income that is less than $40,000 a year, there is government assistance available for them to obtain health insurance.

Many people living in Texas would qualify for this type of Texas health insurance plan assistance, and the only reason why they have no applied for it yet is because they do not know about it. Texas Health Insurance Plans are normally available for low income individuals and families living in Texas. Also, if you have children and don’t qualify for low income Texas health insurance plans there is a chance that your children may be eligible for free or very low cost health insurance. Children living in Texas, under the Insure Kids Now program many states have funding to get health insurance coverage for their kids. There is a toll free number in every state that can be used to contact each state’s Insure Kids Now program, and after talking to them and finding out if your children are eligible you will be sent an application and a handbook about the program. This program has already done wonders for thousands of children living across the country, and has helped many parents who normally may not be able to purchase affordable health insurance for their children.

This American Express One card offers their card holders a very unique savings accelerator plan that no other credit card offers today. Any card holder has the ability earn up to 1% on selected merchandise and from selected merchants. The rebates that are earned from these purchases are then put into a FDIC-Insured and high yielded savings account in the card holder’s name. The current yield on these accounts is 4%.

This is the most unique credit card rewards system that has been put into circulation today. For any card holder this is the easiest way to save your money because you hardly know that is it there. If you have trouble saving your money, this credit card is great for you because they save your money for you.

Just like the rest of the American Express cards, this card offers the benefits such as auto rental insurance, purchase protection from fraud and $100,000 in travel accident insurance. The annual fee for this particular card is $35 but is it waived for the first year for newly approved members. As with any rewards card the interest rates are bit higher than the average credit card but the American Express One card allows for reasonable interest rates that are affordable for everyone.

Anyone with a good credit history and a need to save has found the credit card program that suits all of their needs. This credit card may be difficult to become approved for based on credit standings as well as a great deal of other criteria. This is what makes this credit card so unique and different from the rest of the vast competition.

American Express has a large variety of credit cards, each created to suit a different type of customer and their targeted needs. The American Express One card has been created to suit the needs to their biggest spenders, incorporating the ability to save money that you earn while you spend. This is a revolutionary idea for the many vigilant credit card users of today.
